Cambodia Residence Report + Artist Talk

Cambodia Residence Report + Artist Talk

Sa Sa Art Projects is a collective of 3 artists based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, running a unique artist in residence program based in the famed "White Building", once built as Cambodia's first effort towards social housing but now surrounded by stigma of gangs, drugs and prostitution. Youkobo's staff member Emma Ota spent 5 weeks based in the White Building and developing a project with the children living there, designed to provide an alternative perspective through simple techniques of new media, offering a "Child's Eye View". www.inter-play.org/cambodia During her stay she also interviewed 30 artists and art organizers around the country taking a snap shot of the cultural scene at a time when the country is undergoing major political upheaval. Chanrasmey Koam is an artist and video journalist who knows well about the complexities of Cambodia's politics and society, closely following them as both reporter and filmmaker. Participating in the dislocate and Trolls in the Park projects Koam is undertaking a residency for two months in Tokyo in which time he will be working together with local residents sharing his video reporting skills and encouraging people to bring a voice to their own stories.

Please join us for this unique insight into a country gripped by a new wind of change.
