Natalia Escudero López

[Spain]

Natalia Escudero (Saragossa, Spain) is a visual artist whose practice attempts to collect the scattered fragments of a totality that only exists as a fluctuating idea. In her installations - delicate assemblies of founded objects, words and videos - the boundaries between art and life disappear, showing life and art as a cycle while re-creating the feeling of attachment latent among the different pieces.
Natalia graduated at the Complutense University of Madrid (BA) and at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, Germany (MA). Besides her extensive exhibition experience, she co-founded the collective membrane.network and has completed her artistic activity with other professional developments: She worked as Liaison officer for documenta 14, and as Stage Manager in the organization of the Performance “Whispering Campaign” by William Pope L.

Residency Plan:
At Youkobo Art Space, Natalia will conduct an interdisciplinary project based on the ceramic rests founded at her grandparent’s house. During the weeks of residency, she seeks to put into practice alchemical processes based on the Japanese technique of Kintsugi, reflecting on the incessant transformation of matter through time. This practice will serve to deepen the experience of the processes of fragmentation, restoration, and transformation, stating -moreover- the potential resemblances between the Japanese physical geography and the recent popularization of Kintsugi.

New work developments will culminate in an open studio event.

*Project financed by INJUVE, the Youth Institute of Spain.
