Nicola Moss is an Australian visual artist making fine art with paper. Driven by a burning question ー What is sustainability? Moss engages people in considering the value of healthy environment, exploring possible futures where conservation and development find balance. Residency in 2017 at Youkobo Art Space initiated cross-cultural exchange and engagement with communities in the discussion of local/global green space issues. Her world view reflects on a sense of well-being, contact with green space, can provide in our everyday lives.
Residency at Youkobo Art Space in September will provide a different season view of Tokyo Green, with exploration of urban green spaces within the metropolis. Continued research of the ‘10 Year Plan for Green Tokyo’ and opportunities to experience universal desires for healthy urban lifestyle, will be engaged through walks, plein-air journals, photography documentation, conversations and studio installations. In the studio I will show ‘Tokyo wild’, featuring works on paper developing from conversations, questionnaire responses and observations during residence in 2017. These are accompanied by Australian responses to the same questionnaire as a cultural exchange.
